Why Storytelling Matters

At Syndicate, we believe every space should tell a story. That’s why our brand relaunch centers around "Story Forward Design"—a philosophy that places narrative at the heart of every project. But what does that really mean?
A strong design narrative is more than just an aesthetic choice—it’s a framework that guides the entire project. By defining a clear story, we establish a set of principles that drive decision-making, ensuring a cohesive vision across all elements, from architectural details to material selection. This approach aligns all stakeholders, from developers to designers to marketing teams, creating a seamless experience from concept to completion.
Project Highlight
Concept: The Overlook– A Nature-Inspired Retreat Above the City
Perched high above Koreatown, Nari redefines the idea of an urban escape. Elevated both in design and experience, this fully reimagined 7th-floor amenity space offers residents a serene retreat from the energy of the city below. Inspired by the organic patterns, textures, and colors found in nature, the design embraces warm wood finishes, earthy hues, and layered natural materials, creating an environment that feels both grounded and expansive.
Much like an overlook in nature, this space is designed for both reflection and connection—a place where residents can recharge in a refined yet inviting setting. Whether unwinding in the lounge, gathering with friends, or enjoying panoramic views, The Overlook fosters a sense of escape without ever feeling disconnected from the vibrancy of the city.
In both multi-family and hospitality design, storytelling is a powerful tool. Whether creating a residence or a temporary retreat, spaces should evoke emotion, identity, and a sense of place. A well-crafted design narrative can:
Differentiate a property in a competitive market, giving it a distinct identity that resonates with residents, guests, and visitors.
Inspired by nature, we incorporated organic materials, biophilic elements, and a palette of soothing greens, blues, and warm wood tones to create a restorative environment.
Strengthen the marketing and leasing experience, providing a compelling story that helps teams attract and engage their audience.
Lighting played a key role, with decorative fixtures softening the ambiance and allowing natural light to take center stage.
Ensure long-term appeal and brand consistency, as spaces with a clear narrative feel intentional, immersive, and timeless.
Each amenity space provided a distinct experience, from a bright coworking area for productivity to a moody club room for intimate socializing that serves as its after-hours counterpart. Each space tells another chapter of the project's story, while remaining exciting and unique.
From multi-family communities to boutique hotels, a strong story transforms a space from just beautifully designed to truly memorable and meaningful.
Whether inspired by a location’s history, cultural influences, or future-forward aspirations, a compelling narrative transforms design into something meaningful—something people want to be a part of.
As we move forward under Syndicate’s renewed vision, we’re excited to continue creating spaces that are not just designed, but story-driven.
